Tishomingo is named after a Chickasaw chief. He received a metal from President George Washington for service in the Revolutionary War and was later moved to a reservation in Oklahoma. The town was also mentioned in O Brother Where Art Thou movie. The Natchez Trace Parkway was beautiful and forces you to slow down and enjoy a quiet drive. ( 50 mph. speed limit) They have convenient rest areas all along the way. Our Vilano RV will be coming back with slide toppers and a swivel to the tv. The workshop has sites so that’s where we stayed the night. There is a brand new Texmex restaurant in town that was really good. It’s 68 glorious degrees today! We headed first to Tishomingo State park. Beautiful trails, old cabin, bridges( one that’s swinging), pool, playgroundS, cabins, camping, frisbee golf, lake with boat launch, pond, and not sure but river looks like a nice float ride. Great stop! Next stop was Coon Dog Cemetary in Cherokee, Alabama, just 22 miles away. To say these people love their dogs is an understatement. The first dog buried here was Troop in 1937. There are 5-15 people stop here every day and sign the guest register from as far away as Calf. and Canada. When I was a kid I remember one channel on our tv going off the air to the song ”Blue” and it would show a dog treeing
a coon. ” Blue you old good dog you”. We ended in Iuka, Ms. It had a sweet downtown park. It had a covered bridge and won best spring water at the World’s Fair in 1904.
