Covered Bridges and the Amish

The Amish home, barn and chicken yard are all immaculate. There is NO litter on the roads (unless you count horse manure). They have gorgeous blooming rhododendrons, hostas, and peonies everywhere. There is little electricity, some solar panels, and propane. Only about 8% of the Amish/Mennonite young adults actually leave their family and faith. There usually have large families (8-10 kids) They go to school from 1-8 grades and are taught by a teacher with their same 8th grade education. Farms average about 80 acres and are passed down for generations. They seem to have strong work ethics. They drive buggies, scooters( a bicycle they have modified) or walk. Today seems to be wash day, clothes are hung out to dry. I try to imagine a life without tv’s, commuters and phones. How would it feel to spend Sunday’s at a neighbors home worshiping and share a meal afterward? You would eat and drink things like shoofly pie, corn on the cob, homemade bread, root beer, and lemonade.
